Where: Mercedes-Benz Superdome, New Orleans, Louisiana
Ravens 34, 49ers 31: Joe Flacco threw for 287 yards and three touchdown passes and Baltimore survived a furious comeback and a power outage to win its second Super Bowl at the Superdome in New Orleans.
Jacoby Jones returned a kickoff 108 yards for a touchdown and hauled in a 56-yard scoring pass from Flacco as the Ravens (14-6) built a 22-point lead before holding off San Francisco (13-5-1) in the first Super Bowl featuring brothers as opposing head coaches.
Anquan Boldin had six receptions for 104 yards and a score for Baltimore, which sent future Hall of Fame linebacker Ray Lewis into retirement on a triumphant note by handing the 49ers their first Super Bowl loss in six appearances.
The 49ers did not go quietly, storming back from a 28-6 third-quarter deficit and moving into position for the go-ahead touchdown before Colin Kaepernick overthrew Michael Crabtree in the end zone with 1:46 to play on fourth-and-goal at the 5-yard line. The Ravens took a late safety to account for the final margin.
Ravens coach John Harbaugh got the best of his younger brother Jim in what appeared to be a blowout after Jones tied the longest scoring play in Super Bowl history by returning the second-half kickoff 108 yards for a 28-6 lead.
Less than 90 seconds later, the lights went out at the stadium, prompting a 34-minute delay and turning the momentum in San Francisco's favor. Kaepernick led the 49ers to 17 points in a span of 4:10 to ignite the comeback and later scored on a 15-yard run to cut the deficit to 31-29 with 9:57 to play before a tying two-point conversion pass failed.
Flacco, named the game's Most Valuable Player, capped a magnificent postseason that saw him throw for 11 touchdown passes and zero interceptions. He carved up the league's second-stingiest scoring defense in the opening half, throwing three touchdown passes to spark the Ravens to a 21-6 lead.
Kaepernick, in his 10th career start, overcame a shaky first half to throw for 302 yards and a TD while rushing for 62 yards and another score.
