Tulane at Tulsa
When: 3:45 PM ET, Saturday, October 22, 2016
Where: Skelly Field at H.A. Chapman Stadium, Tulsa, Oklahoma

Tulsa made a bid to join the American Athletic Conference's elite in its last game and fell just short, though it can score with any team in the league and still has a chance to advance up the standings. The Golden Hurricane will take aim at a different type of team when they host Tulane on Saturday in another AAC showdown.

Tulsa put up at least 43 points in each of its four wins and averaged 49.7 during a three-game winning streak before a 38-31 setback at No. 11 Houston last time out. The Golden Hurricane, whose only other loss came at then-No. 4 Ohio State in Week 2, were stopped at the 1-yard line on the final play against the Cougars but never quite got a rushing offense that averages 206 yards into top gear. "Tulsa has an explosive, fast-paced offense that can change tempos," Green Wave coach Willie Fritz told reporters. "We're preaching to our defense the importance of being ready quickly." Tulane has built itself around the running game with Fritz's triple-option offense while averaging 233.7 yards on the ground and just 110 through the air.

ABOUT TULANE (3-3, 0-2 AAC): The Green Wave played two of the top AAC teams tough but could not quite figure out a way to win in a 21-14 loss to Navy and a 24-14 setback against Memphis last weekend. Quarterback Glen Cuiellette was forced to throw more than usual with Tulane trailing against the Tigers and was just 11-for-30 for 144 yards, one touchdown and an interception. Leading rusher Dontrell Hilliard endured his least productive game of the season with 21 yards on eight carries in the loss but is one of five rushers with at least 150 yards on the season, including quarterbacks Cuiellette and Johnathan Brantley.

ABOUT TULSA (4-2, 1-1): The Golden Hurricane did not get much help from the schedule makers with their three toughest conference games - Houston, Memphis and Navy - on the road and need to avoid overlooking the Green Wave with the trip to Memphis looming next weekend. Quarterback Dane Evans reached 1,500 yards passing on the season with his 365-yard performance last week. Senior wide receiver Keevan Lucas in Evans' favorite target and is averaging 14.5 yards per catch, though he has been held out of the end zone in each of the last two games.

1. Tulane's defense recorded a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in each of the last five games.

2. Tulsa RB D'Angelo Brewer leads the AAC with 732 rushing yards but is questionable after suffering an ankle injury last week.

3. The Green Wave (plus-8) lead the AAC in turnover margin while the Golden Hurricane (minus-2) are tied for 10th in the 12-team league.

PREDICTION: Tulsa 28, Tulane 17
