Miami-Florida vs Charlotte
When: 9:00 PM ET, Sunday, November 23, 2014
Where: TD Arena, Charleston, South Carolina

Miami (Fla.) has experienced no shortage of success in its two trips to the Charleston Classic and Charlotte has enjoyed similar success in regular-season tournaments of late regardless of venue. The Hurricanes and 49ers put a pair of impressive winning streaks on the line Sunday when they face each other in the championship game of the Charleston Classic. Miami, which won this tournament in 2009, improved to 5-0 all-time at this event following Friday’s 79-51 rout of Akron in the semifinals.

Just hours after the Hurricanes rolled to their second victory of at least 20 points in as many days Friday, the 49ers were taken to the limit for the second time in as many games before edging South Carolina 65-63. Charlotte went to double overtime Thursday, squeaking past Penn State despite blowing a 17-point lead with less than 12 minutes remaining in regulation. The 49ers have won eight straight early season tournament games overall, capturing the 2012 Great Alaska Shootout before upsetting Kansas State and Michigan en route to winning the 2013 Puerto Rico Tip-Off.

TV: 9 p.m. ET, ESPN2

ABOUT MIAMI (4-0): The Hurricanes have quickly proven to be one of the nation’s most dangerous teams beyond the arc, where the team has shot 50 percent over its last three games combined. Angel Rodriguez – a 5-11 Kansas State transfer and one of the team’s nine newcomers – continued to thrive with Miami, finishing with 15 points and nine assists while setting career highs with eight boards and two blocks against Akron. Miami is averaging 11.7 fouls over its last three games – a span in which its opponents have attempted a total of 28 free throws.

ABOUT CHARLOTTE (3-0): While preseason All-Conference USA selection Pierria Henry has struggled with turnovers (10) and shooting (5-of-18) through two games at this event, fellow guard Braxton Ogbueze has flourished, averaging 20 points on 11-of-20 from the field and 14-of-15 from the foul line over the same span. The 49ers have lived dangerously in all three of their games, converting 63.9 percent of their free throws and averaging 17.7 turnovers. Charlotte committed only 13 fouls against South Carolina, nearly half of the total it had against Penn State (24) and in its season-opening win over Elon (25).

1. The Hurricanes and 49ers will meet again in Charlotte on Tuesday.

2. The 49ers are seeking their 19th regular-season tournament title.

3. Four of the Hurricanes’ five all-time wins at this event have been by margins of 15 points or more.
