CSU Northridge at Oregon
When: 11:00 PM ET, Wednesday, December 17, 2014
Where: Matthew Knight Arena, Eugene, Oregon

Arizona’s Stanley Johnson remains the favorite for Pac-12 Freshman of the Year honors, but Oregon wing Dillon Brooks has clearly entered the race. Brooks heads into the Ducks’ contest Wednesday against visiting Cal State Northridge as the Pac-12’s leading freshman scorer at 15.8 points per game, and he’s set his career high in points in four of his last five games. Oregon has won three of its last four, including Saturday’s impressive 77-70 victory over Illinois in a game played in Chicago.

Oregon’s roster includes six freshmen and two sophomores, but the Ducks hardly seemed nervous before a large United Center crowd on Saturday. Forwards Elgin Cook and Jordan Bell had seven rebounds apiece for the Ducks, who rallied from a 13-point deficit to record the upset over the Illini. Oregon looks to avoid a letdown against Northridge, which ended a five-game losing streak with Saturday’s 70-58 win over Vanguard.

TV: 11 p.m. ET, Pac-12 Network

ABOUT CAL STATE NORTHRIDGE (3-7): Senior guard Stephan Hicks averages a team-high 17.7 points for the Matadors, who were picked to finish fourth in the Big West Conference preseason coaches poll. The frontcourt includes forwards Devonte Elliott and Stephen Maxwell, who has four games of 10 or more rebounds this season. Forward Tre Hale-Edmerson, a 6-9 junior forward, grabbed 11 rebounds in the win over Vanguard and will need another strong effort against Oregon’s athletic frontline.

ABOUT OREGON (6-3): Guard Joseph Young, the team’s lone senior starter, leads the Pac-12 in scoring at 19.8 points per game while shooting 42-of-44 from the foul line. Oregon, which begins a seven-game homestand on Wednesday, ranks among the top 30 nationally in scoring (79.9), rebounding (44.3) and assists (17.7). Highly recruited freshman center Michael Chandler has yet to make his Oregon debut due to a knee injury, but forward Dwayne Benjamin (team-high 7.9 rebounds) has helped the Ducks post a plus-7.3 rebounding margin.

TIP-INS

1. Oregon is 63-12 all-time at Matthew Knight Arena, which opened in 2011.

2. Hicks is 16 points shy of tying Brian Heinle as Northridge’s top all-time scorer at 1,641.

3. Northridge is facing its second Pac-12 opponent this season after losing 86-68 to Arizona on Nov. 16.
