Men's College Basketball
Southern at Mississippi
When: 8:00 PM ET, Thursday, November 20, 2014
Where: C.M. 'Tad' Smith Coliseum, Oxford, Mississippi

After taking to the road to notch its first win of the season, Ole Miss returns home to host Southern in the first round of the Emerald Coast Classic. The Rebels shook off a season-opening loss to Charleston Southern by knocking off Troy 74-64 on Monday, thanks in large part to 21 points from Jarvis Summers. Coach Andy Kennedy saw positives in his team's first win but knows it has a long way to go, telling reporters, "We rebounded much better and we made some shots but we're still a work in progress."

Summers is one of seven key returning players for an Ole Miss team that has won only four of its last 12 games. "This year," Kennedy told the school web site, "Summers) will be the focus. It will be a new role for him and he will have to adjust accordingly." The Jaguars compete in the Southwestern Athletic Conference and are in their third season under coach Roman Banks, who has compiled a 60-38 record manning the Southern sideline.

ABOUT SOUTHERN (1-1): After falling in their season opener to Louisiana Tech, the Jaguars rebounded with a 76-65 victory over LSU-Alexandria on Monday. With just one player starter returning from last year's team, it is a transitional year for Southern. Tre Lynch is the Jaguars' leading scoring threat after averaging 9.5 points per game last season, but the senior guard is expected to miss up to three weeks with a sprained ankle.

ABOUT OLE MISS (1-1): Guard Stefan Moody scored all 14 of his points in the second half Monday, the type of the production Ole Miss is hoping for out of the junior as it looks to replace the production of departed star Marshall Henderson. Through two games this season, Moody is averaging 10.5 points to complement Summers' team-leading output. Forward Sebastian Saiz is another player to watch as the sophomore has utilized his 6-9 frame to grab a team-leading 5.5 rebounds.

1. Ole Miss ranked third in the SEC and 21st in the nation with 5.5 blocks per game last season, and has turned away 11 this season.

2. In eight full seasons under Kennedy, Ole Miss has averaged more than 21 wins per season.

3. Summers is the SEC's active career leader in points (1,262), assists (378), minutes played (2,986) and wins (67).

PREDICTION: Ole Miss 84, Southern 62
